Video: Miami Dolphins newcomer Tyreek Hill puts his DB skills on full display

Even though the Miami Dolphins didn’t acquire wide receiver Tyreek Hill for his defensive skills, he recently put on an impressive display in that area.

The Dolphins traded for the 28-year-old Hill in March from the Kansas City Chiefs in a deal that required Miami to surrender plenty of draft capital.

The cost for Hill was steep because in six NFL seasons, he has used his blazing speed to rank among the most prolific receivers in the league.

Last season for the Chiefs, Hill caught a career-high 111 passes for 1,239 yards and nine touchdowns. It marked his fourth season with at least 1,000 receiving yards.

In addition to his receiving skills, he has plenty of playoff experience and helped the Chiefs become perennial Super Bowl contenders.

Hill’s speed also allows him to occasionally be used in running situations. Over the course of his NFL career, he’s managed to rush for 719 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 7.7 yards per carry.

That sort of versatility helps explain why Hill seems to be a natural on the defensive side of the ball as well. Obviously, the more casual nature of the situation in the video isn’t a true representation of play in the NFL, but it may spark some new ideas in the mind of new Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel.

For now, the Dolphins are simply hoping that Hill will help power the team’s receiving unit toward a playoff berth, which is something that has narrowly eluded Miami in recent years. Making the playoffs won’t require any additional duties for the veteran on defense.
