Ex-NFL QB says Dolphins will get to 8-7: ‘Stop sleeping on the Miami Dolphins’

Following a nightmarish start to the 2025 NFL campaign, there’s been a lot to like about how the Miami Dolphins have played on both sides of the football in recent weeks. They are winners of their last three games (and four of their last five), and former NFL signal-caller Dan Orlovsky believes the Dolphins are going to keep their winning streak alive for quite a while.

Orlovsky was selected by the Detroit Lions with a fifth-round pick all the way back in the 2005 NFL Draft and now works for ESPN, and he said the Dolphins are going to win their upcoming three bouts and get to above .500 on the campaign at 8-7.

In order for the Dolphins to make Orlovsky’s prediction come true, they will need to pick up wins over the New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals. Fortunately, all those teams have records at the .500 mark or worse.

The Steelers (6-6) were above .500 not long ago but are riding a two-game losing streak, and the Jets and Bengals have been two of the worst teams in football this season. They have a combined record of 7-17.

If the Dolphins managed to get above the .500 mark after the start they had, that would be an accomplishment in and of itself. Just a few weeks ago, the team was 1-6, looked lifeless and appeared destined to be in the running for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

But even if the Dolphins do go on to win every one of their next three contests and extend their current winning streak to six games, that won’t guarantee them a playoff spot by any means, and it appears they’ll have to win out to have any real shot at a berth.

Unfortunately for the Dolphins, they have a difficult slate to end the season, with the last two contests of their 17-game schedule coming against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots. Those teams just so happen to be led by great signal-callers in Baker Mayfield and Drake Maye, with Maye even in the mix to win the MVP award this season.
