DeShon Elliott proceeds to destroy Dolphins, calls them ‘soft as f–k’

Pittsburgh Steelers safety DeShon Elliott took a massive shot at the Miami Dolphins during a recent podcast appearance.

Elliott spent the 2023 season with the Dolphins and evidently wasn’t impressed during his time there.

“Last year, I played for a team that was soft as f—,” he said. “… There were some guys who were tough, but the majority of the team, there was not mentally tough individuals.”

Later, Elliot said that the Dolphins “will never be good.”

“Everyone thought they were somebody, because of the mindset of, oh, I’m in Miami, I can be somebody different,” Elliott said. “The Miami culture is the reason why Miami will never be good. Miami will never be a good football team, and I don’t care. I think they have great players, but the culture is not going to be there. And I don’t care what anyone says.”

The comments from Elliot are remarkably bold. It’s likely safe to assume that he wasn’t very upset when his time with the franchise came to an end following the 2023 season.

On Wednesday, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was asked about Elliot calling the Dolphins soft.

“I am supremely only concerned with the 2024 Dolphins for sure,” he said. “I think every team’s ability to be mentality tough during a season is tried. … Just worried about this year’s team.”

Elliot appeared in 15 regular-season games for the Dolphins and started all of them. He had one interception, seven passes defended, one fumble recovery and 82 combined tackles.

Last season’s Dolphins team made the playoffs but lost in the first round at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs. In that game, Elliot recorded nine combined tackles.

Elliot has bounced around a lot in recent years. He’s currently playing for his fourth team in as many seasons. Since coming into the NFL, he has seen action with the Baltimore Ravens, Detroit Lions, Dolphins and Steelers.

His current team, the Steelers, won’t play the Dolphins this season (barring an unlikely playoff matchup). However, next time Elliot does face off against the Dolphins, there will certainly be some added motivation for Miami to prove to him that he doesn’t have it all figured out.

Elliot and the Steelers are currently enjoying a 7-2 record, and they’re in first place in their division. The Dolphins, meanwhile, are fighting for their playoff hopes every week now after a poor first half of the season. Miami is 3-6 and has very little margin for error remaining.

No matter how the rest of the season plays out for both teams in question, Elliot’s comments won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
