Report: Miami Dolphins source expressed optimism Saturday night on Tyreek Hill’s outlook vs. New York Jets

A Miami Dolphins source reportedly expressed optimism Saturday night regarding the chances of star wide receiver Tyreek Hill pushing to play in the team’s matchup against the New York Jets on Sunday.

“Within the next 90 minutes, we’re gonna see Hill out here on the field for a pregame workout on his injured ankle,” NFL insider Cameron Wolfe said. “He’s a game-time decision, but I did speak with someone in the Dolphins building last night who said he was optimistic that Hill would push to play.”

Hill suffered an ankle injury in Miami’s game against the Tennessee Titans on Dec. 11. He totaled 61 receiving yards on four catches against the Titans, and his longest reception was for 25 yards.

The Dolphins lost the game by a final score of 28-27 to fall to 9-4. The Titans snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, as the team was trailing by 14 points with under three minutes to go in the game but scored 15 points down the stretch while Miami scored zero.

As Wolfe alluded to in his post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Hill is close to reaching 2,000 receiving yards on the season. He has racked up 1,542 receiving yards in 13 games played with the Dolphins so far and is averaging a league-best 118.6 receiving yards per game.

The closest that Hill has ever been to reaching 2,000 receiving yards in a single regular season came when he ended up with 1,710 receiving yards for the Dolphins in 17 games during the 2022 regular season. He averaged 100.6 receiving yards per game a season ago, which is a far cry from his current average of 118.6 per game.

The Dolphins will have just three more games remaining on their regular season schedule after they take on the Jets on Sunday. Miami will play the Dallas Cowboys on Dec. 24 before facing the Baltimore Ravens on Dec. 31 and Buffalo Bills on Jan. 7 to wrap up the 2023 regular season.

Here’s to hoping that Hill will participate in all four of the Dolphins’ remaining games in the regular season, as it would be especially difficult — but far from impossible — for him to reach 2,000 receiving yards if he were to miss any action. Fortunately for Dolphins fans, they won’t have to wait much longer before they know whether Hill will suit up against the Jets.
