The Miami Dolphins have announced that seven players — Tyreek Hill, Skylar Thompson, Jevon Holland, DeShon Elliott, Xavien Howard, Robert Hunt and Jason Pierre-Paul — are listed as inactive for the team’s matchup against the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Jets have also listed seven players as inactive for the matchup.
Hill — who is leading the NFL in receiving yards, receiving touchdowns and receiving yards per game — stands out as the best player who won’t suit up for the Dolphins. He suffered an ankle injury against the Tennessee Titans on Dec. 11 and was considered to be a game-time decision for Sunday’s battle against the Jets.
Holland’s presence will be missed for the Dolphins as well, even if he isn’t quite as irreplaceable as Hill. The safety — who is in his third season in the NFL, all as a member of the Dolphins franchise — has accumulated 70 combined tackles, four passes defended, one interception and three forced fumbles in 10 starts with Miami so far during the 2023 regular season.
He’s just one of many players the squad will miss on defense.
The Dolphins will hope to get back to their winning ways against the Jets. Miami is fresh off an embarrassing loss against the Titans, as the team lost by one point after holding a commanding 14-point lead with under three minutes remaining in the game. To add insult to injury, the Titans have a 5-8 record, which is the worst in the AFC South.
Even though the Dolphins will be without Hill, Holland and others, they should be able to earn a win against the Jets if all goes well.
After all, the Jets own a subpar 5-8 record on the season, including a 2-3 away record. Meanwhile, the Dolphins have played very well at home all season, as they own a 5-1 record in such games, with their only home loss of the season to this point coming against the Titans in their most recent game.
