Mike Gesicki’s brutally honest comments on getting franchise tag from Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins placed the franchise tag on tight end Mike Gesicki earlier this offseason. Gesicki spoke about that fact on Wednesday.

While it seems like he isn’t mad about getting the franchise tag from the Dolphins, it’s clear that Gesicki eventually wants to get more. He’s surely hoping to get a long-term contract from either the Dolphins or another team in the NFL sometime in the near future.

Since being selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft from Pennsylvania State University, the 26-year-old has established himself as one of the better players on Miami’s roster. Last season, he recorded 73 catches for 780 yards and two touchdowns.

Throughout his NFL career, Gesicki has caught 199 passes for 2,255 yards and 13 touchdowns. He’s become one of Tua Tagovailoa’s favorite options, and he’s a fairly important player to the team’s offense. Tagovailoa and Gesicki seem to have a pretty good relationship.

With the Dolphins acquiring wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Cedrick Wilson Jr. this offseason, one can only wonder if Gesicki’s production will take a hit during the 2022 campaign. Hopefully, he’ll be able to put up the same numbers that he has put up over the last couple of seasons.

After narrowly missing out on the postseason in two straight years, Miami decided to make a change at head coach. The team hired Mike McDaniel away from the San Francisco 49ers. In his little time with the Dolphins, McDaniel has won many people over with his entertaining personality.

Gesicki is surely hoping that he’ll play an important role in McDaniel’s offense and help the Dolphins make the playoffs in the 2022 campaign.
