Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa recently took to Instagram to put a bow on his 2021 season.

Mike Gesicki made sure to leave a comment on Tagovailoa’s post about how they are going to throw the ball “40 times a game” next year.

Tagovailoa showed some exciting signs of growth this season. Unfortunately, he had a brutal outing in arguably the biggest game of the year for Miami.

In Week 17, the Dolphins desperately needed a win. Tagovailoa didn’t exactly rise to the occasion. He went just 18 for 38 on passes for no touchdowns and one interception. Former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores reportedly was very unhappy with the 23-year-old’s performance.

The young quarterback is certainly hoping that his season won’t be remembered by that game alone.

Overall, he appeared in 13 games this season, starting 12 of them. He completed 67.8 percent of his passes for 2,653 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also threw 10 interceptions.

As for Gesicki, he caught 73 passes for 780 yards and two touchdowns during the 2021 campaign. He’s set to become an unrestricted free agent this coming offseason. It remains to be seen whether or not he’ll return to the Dolphins next season.

Tagovailoa had a big hand in Miami’s epic winning streak that got it back in the playoff conversation. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite enough, as the Dolphins obviously missed the postseason again.

With Flores out, it remains to be seen exactly how the future will unfold for Tagovailoa. It seems like he has become a somewhat polarizing player from a talent perspective.

The former No. 5 overall draft pick is surely hoping to be Miami’s starting quarterback when next season rolls around. Only time will provide a real answer.
