Report: Miami Dolphins to hold private workout with promising OL prospect ahead of 2022 NFL Draft

The 2022 NFL Draft is fast approaching, and many teams across the league are summoning prospects for workouts in order to better evaluate them.

The Miami Dolphins are reportedly set to work out Wake Forest University offensive lineman Zach Tom on Wednesday.

“Wake Forest offensive lineman Zach Tom, one of the most athletic and versatile blockers in the draft on analytics indexes, will work out privately for the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday after previously working out privately for the New Orleans Saints, according to a league source,” wrote Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network.

Tom is a very versatile offensive lineman, having played both left tackle and center during his collegiate career. Given that the Dolphins have already signed Terron Armstead to play left tackle, it seems like they might be interested in having Tom play center in the pros. Miami is hoping to better protect quarterback Tua Tagovailoa throughout the 2022 season.

After trading away many picks in a blockbuster deal for superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill, the Dolphins now only have a total of four picks in the upcoming draft. They have one third-round pick, one fourth-round pick and two seventh-round picks.

Despite being 6-foot-5 and over 300 pounds, Tom has some nice mobility. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.94 seconds.

He’s definitely an intriguing prospect, as he played 3,107 snaps during his time with the Demon Deacons while only allowing two sacks.

Miami is hoping to make the playoffs during the 2022 season after narrowly missing out in both of the previous two campaigns.

The Dolphins have a new head coach in Mike McDaniel and have made some huge splashes so far this offseason. There are now heightened expectations in South Florida, and missing the postseason again would surely be disastrous for Miami.

Only time will tell if Tom ends up joining the Dolphins, but he’s definitely a prospect to keep an eye on.
