Report: Chicago Bears request to interview Miami Dolphins executive for their vacant GM position

The Miami Dolphins have an important offseason ahead of them.

They need to hire a new head coach after firing Brian Flores earlier this month. The team could also be in the market for a new senior personnel executive if it loses Reggie McKenzie, whom the Chicago Bears have reportedly put in a request to interview for their open general manager position.

McKenzie has been with the Dolphins since 2019. Prior to his Miami tenure, the 58-year-old had served as the general manager of the Oakland Raiders starting in 2012. He helped build a contender in the 2016 season, when the Raiders finished the campaign 12-4 and reached the playoffs for the first time since the 2002 season.

However, the success was short-lived, as the Raiders failed to make it back to the postseason the following year, ending the season 6-10. McKenzie was fired in 2018 before the Dolphins scooped him up and hired him to a front office position a few months after.

The former NFL pro is not the first former or present Dolphins member that has been linked to the Bears this month. Flores was reportedly listed as one of the possible candidates for Chicago’s head coaching vacancy.

As for the Dolphins’ open head coaching position, the team has been busy setting its eyes on multiple candidates. A betting website recently tagged Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll as the favorite to land the job.

Whoever Miami decides on, it is certainly clear that the organization expects that person to lead the Dolphins back to the playoffs as soon as possible.
