Tyreek Hill may just be looking for something to do to keep himself busy during the offseason, and the Miami Dolphins wide receiver recently said he wants to box Jake Paul.
“I wanna get in the cage, or I wanna box,” Hill said.
Asked who he would want to fight, Hill said he had a specific opponent in mind.
“I don’t know,” Hill said. “I think my first fight need to be like Jake Paul or somethin’ like that.”
Paul launched his amateur fighting career before taking a turn into more serious bouts. After famously knocking out former NBA player Nate Robinson, Paul later held bouts against former UFC fighters such as Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz. The 27-year-old has a bout against boxer Ryan Bourland coming up early next month.
Hill was asked if he thought Paul is as tough as he looks.
“I don’t think so, bro,” Hill responded.
Though there would seem to be virtually no chance that the Dolphins would allow Hill to take part in a bout against Paul while still with the team, the 29-year-old believes he does have some skills in the ring.
“Yes, bro,” Hill said when asked if he has hands. “I grew up boxin’.”
However, Hill may want to be careful because Paul has an 8-1 record since becoming a boxer. Tommy Fury reportedly could make up to $20 million for two bouts against Paul, so it would be interesting to see what kind of purse a match between Hill and Paul could produce.
The two men do have a history, with Paul showing support for a business venture of Hill’s back in August 2022. The fighter also was at a Dolphins practice along with with Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra.
Paul also seems to be involved in the Miami sports scene overall, once offering Jimmy Butler money to keep his dreadlocks hairdo for an entire NBA season.
Hill is coming off another outstanding season with the Dolphins. He established a new career-high with 1,799 receiving yards this past campaign, which led the NFL, and his 13 touchdown catches tied for the league lead. He finished second in voting for Offensive Player of the Year and sixth in voting for NFL MVP.
The wideout also is keeping tabs on the Dolphins’ offseason, recently commenting on the idea that they might trade fellow receiver Jaylen Waddle.
As long as Hill keeps his focus on his current job, the Dolphins likely would much prefer that to him trying his hand at boxing.
