Boston College star speaks ahead of 2024 NFL Draft: ‘Maybe…I could be a Miami Dolphin’

In about two months, the 2024 NFL Draft will take place. The Miami Dolphins have some work to do to ensure they make the right moves since they only have six picks this year.

With the way their 2023 season ended, the Dolphins might look at prospects with the ability to contribute right away. Christian Mahogany of Boston College could be one of them, and the offensive lineman recently spoke about the idea of playing for Miami.

“Mahogany reports he talked to Dolphins scouts and watched film with them at the Shrine Bowl after the college season,” David Furones of the Sun Sentinel wrote.

“‘It was a good time,’ he said. ‘They seem like good people. They run a similar scheme to what I’m used to, so should be fun.’

“Mahogany didn’t necessarily pick up any notion that Miami is more interested in him than other teams, but there are several things that line up.

“‘Maybe, down the line, I could be a Miami Dolphin. It would be really nice,’ said the north New Jersey native who added he has family in South Florida. ‘Just see where it takes me, where the path takes me in April. I’m excited wherever I go, but the Dolphins wouldn’t be a bad fit.'”

There are some key reasons for Mahogany to fancy wearing a Dolphins uniform. For one, Boston College runs similar blocking schemes as Miami. Moreover, his offensive line coach for a chunk of his time at BC, Matt Applebaum, spent a season with the Dolphins under Mike McDaniel, so the feeling of familiarity is already there.

Many draft boards have Mahogany being selected somewhere in the first few rounds. He was a star at BC and helped the program reach the Fenway Bowl this past season. Mahogany didn’t play in the bowl game, but the squad got the job done without him.

The 23-year-old could definitely pique the Dolphins’ interest, especially because of his impressive combination of physique, strength and speed. He stands at 6-foot-3 and is 322 pounds. Yet, he has displayed a high level of agility for his size.

Only time will tell how the Dolphins approach the draft, but looking for someone to protect Tua Tagovailoa could prove to be one of the team’s priorities. Miami already has some elite targets for the star quarterback. However, it’s worth noting that he was sacked 29 times this past season, the highest mark of his NFL career.

This offseason could prove to be crucial for the Dolphins. Despite registering their most wins in the 2023 regular season (11) since the 2008 season, they were eliminated from the playoffs in the first round for a second straight time. The franchise has not won a playoff game since the 2000 season.

Hopefully, Miami can find some help in the coming draft.
