Tyreek Hill and Jake Paul are exchanging barbs on social media after the Miami Dolphins star expressed an interest in fighting the 27-year-old.
Hill said he would like to “get in the cage” or box someone and eventually named Paul as a possible opponent. The two have a previous relationship, with the fighter showing up to support one of Hill’s business ventures and also stopping by at a Dolphins practice in the past.
In the fighting world, Paul has made a name for himself with bouts against some YouTubers before moving on to take on former UFC fighters such as Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz. He has another bout coming up next month.
Hill has expressed some doubts that Paul is as tough as he looks, and the Dolphins star claims that he grew up boxing. It is unclear if the two men have any actual beef or if the back-and-forth between them is more hype than substance.
The wide receiver is coming off an excellent season for the Dolphins that had him among the contenders for the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year award. He equaled his career-high with 119 receptions and set a new career-high with 1,799 receiving yards.
A former Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, Hill has yet to help the Dolphins reach similar heights. Miami posted an 11-6 record this past regular season, but consecutive losses to the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills before the playoffs prevented the team from winning the AFC East.
The Dolphins went on the road for the first round of the playoffs and were eliminated by the Chiefs with a 26-7 loss in historically cold conditions. Hill was held to just five receptions and 62 receiving yards, though he did manage to score Miami’s lone touchdown in the game.
He will be back this coming season to try again to help the Dolphins to their first playoff victory in more than 20 years and possibly their first Super Bowl victory in more than 50 years.
