Travis Kelce thinks DeAndre Hopkins will end up with Miami Dolphins or Buffalo Bills

Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins continues to be a free agent after getting released by the Arizona Cardinals recently.

Plenty of people have been speculating about where he will end up for the 2023 season, and Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce recently offered up some landing spots for the five-time Pro Bowler, with the Miami Dolphins included on the list.

“I think he ends up either with the [Buffalo] Bills or with Miami, the Dolphins,” Kelce said. “You know who else I could see? A Jacksonville — I could see Jacksonville. I could see the Chiefs, don’t really see the [Philadelphia] Eagles.”

While plenty of people see Buffalo as a good spot for Hopkins, it seems like that might not end up happening. The team reportedly is a long shot to sign Hopkins because it doesn’t have the necessary cap space.

“Three executives from around the NFL, some with direct knowledge of what the free-agent receiver wants in his next contract, inform The Athletic the Bills simply don’t have enough salary-cap room to accommodate Hopkins’ terms,” wrote Tim Graham.

The Bills currently have less than $2 million in cap space after some recent roster moves. Hopkins previously expressed a desire to catch passes from Bills quarterback Josh Allen, but it seems like money might be a bit more important to him.

“Hopkins publicly has expressed a strong desire to play with Bills quarterback Josh Allen, but one of the league executives, who has communicated with Hopkins’ camp, said his preferred passer won’t supersede his preferred payout,” wrote Graham.

It’ll be interesting to see exactly where Hopkins signs. While the 30-year-old may be getting up there in age, he is still one of the league’s most talented receivers.

Last season, he caught 64 of his 96 targets for 717 yards and three touchdowns. The Clemson University product only appeared in nine games due to being suspended for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Miami already has plenty of solid receivers in Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Robbie Chosen, Braxton Berrios and others, so it doesn’t seem like the team will target Hopkins.

However, a team can never have too much talent, so perhaps Miami’s front office uses its upcoming influx of cap space to sign the South Carolina native.

The Dolphins are looking to make it back to the postseason after going 9-8 last season and losing to the Bills in the first round of the playoffs.
