Report: Dalvin Cook would like to play for Miami Dolphins or Buffalo Bills

Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook reportedly would like to play for the Miami Dolphins or Buffalo Bills if the Vikings choose to move on from him this offseason.

Cook, 27, could be cut by Minnesota. Since it’s past June 1, the Vikings would save $9 million in cap room and carry only $5 million in dead money by cutting Cook.

Should the Vikings go that route, the Dolphins and Bills are on the veteran’s short list, according to OutKick’s Armando Salguero.

“Cook is from Miami,” Salguero wrote. “Has has made it known through sources he’d like to play either for the Dolphins or with his brother James Cook on the Bills. And the Vikings have let it known Cook probably isn’t in their future.”

The Dolphins could use a dynamic playmaker like Dalvin Cook in their backfield, but it may be hard to bring him in given what the team has invested at the position this offseason.

Miami brought back Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed. Plus, the team used a draft pick on De’Von Achane. That means Dalvin Cook would be joining a very crowded backfield, and the Dolphins may need to move on from one of those players if they were to add the Vikings running back.

However, it may be worth doing that rather than allowing Dalvin Cook to sign with the Bills if he does get released by Minnesota. The Dolphins certainly wouldn’t want to face the dynamic running back two times in the regular season.

The four-time Pro Bowler has topped 1,000 rushing yards for four straight campaigns, but he did average the fewest yards per carry of his career (4.4) last season. Overall, Dalvin Cook carried the ball 264 times for 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns.

The other key for Miami is that the longtime Vikings star would also open up the team’s passing game even more.

The former second-round pick is a very impressive receiver, reeling in at least 34 receptions in five straight seasons. In the 2022 campaign, he had 295 receiving yards and two receiving scores.

Ultimately, the Dolphins have to wait and see what Dalvin Cook’s future holds.
