Von Miller praises Tua Tagovailoa for being ‘extremely tough’ to sack

Buffalo Bills star pass rusher Von Miller praised Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for being one of the toughest quarterbacks to sack in the NFL.

Miller put Tagovailoa in a class that includes Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Bills quarterback Josh Allen and New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

“Tua’s extremely tough to get,” Miller said when talking about quarterbacks that don’t allow defenders to sack them easily.

That’s some major praise from Miller, who is a Super Bowl MVP and one of the best pass rushers in the history of the NFL.

Tagovailoa has been sacked 20, 20 and 21 times through his first three seasons in the NFL, posting a 5.4 sack percentage, which measures how often a player is sacked when attempting to pass.

In the 2022 season, Tagovailoa’s sack percentage of 5.0 percent was the sixth best in the NFL, behind only Tom Brady, Jared Goff, Mahomes, Trevor Lawrence and Dak Prescott.

The Dolphins certainly would love it if Tagovailoa can continue to avoid being sacked, especially after the injuries he suffered during the 2022 season. The University of Alabama product suffered two confirmed concussions in the 2022 campaign, with the second one coming in Week 16 against the Green Bay Packers.

Tagovailoa missed the remainder of the regular season and the team’s playoff game against Buffalo with the injury. It seems like when he does get sacked, he’s taking hits that put him in danger.

The Dolphins and Bills will be fighting for the AFC East crown in the 2023 season, and Tagovailoa and company will need to avoid Miller at all costs if they want to have success on offense.

Prior to an injury last season, Miller picked up eight sacks and 10 tackles for loss in just 11 games. He was easily one of the most disruptive pass rushers in the NFL in the 2022 season when healthy.

With Tagovailoa expected to be good to go for the 2023 regular season, the Dolphins have high expectations for their team, with the playoffs just being the start.

The former first-round pick is coming off his best NFL season where he threw for 3,548 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 13 games.
