Veteran offensive tackle Taylor Lewan says Miami Dolphins have called him

Veteran offensive tackle Taylor Lewan has heard from the Miami Dolphins, according to the player himself.

Lewan is currently a free agent after he was released by the Tennessee Titans earlier in the offseason.

“The Dolphins have called me,” he said.

Free agency is a new experience for the veteran, as he’d never hit the open market before this offseason. It certainly wouldn’t hurt the Dolphins to add some offensive line help, so it makes sense that they’ve been in contact with Lewan.

The 6-foot-7, 315-pound pro has nine seasons of NFL experience under his belt. Earlier in his career, he was a perennial Pro Bowler, as he was named to the event in three straight seasons starting with the 2016 campaign.

In recent years, he’s struggled to stay on the field. He appeared in just two games in the 2022 season and five games in the 2020 season. Still, if he were to come at a reasonable price, he’d be a solid addition for the Dolphins.

Lewan was a first-round pick way back in the 2014 NFL Draft. The 2023 NFL Draft is just hours away and will give the Dolphins more opportunities to add help to their offensive line if they so desire (though it’s worth noting that Miami currently isn’t scheduled to make its first selection until Friday).

It’s no secret that protecting Tua Tagovailoa is going to be a huge key for the Dolphins moving forward. As always, building a strong and capable offensive line is the best way to do that. The unit took a step forward in the 2022 season but still has room for improvement, which is something that fans are hoping to see in the 2023 campaign.

Time will tell what the future holds for Lewan. If he joins the Dolphins, he’ll become part of a team that is looking to earn its second straight playoff bid. The 31-year-old has a fair amount of playoff experience himself, as he’s appeared in three separate postseasons and seen action in six total playoff games.

The Dolphins have had a busy offseason and may still have some tricks up their sleeve.
