Tyreek Hill says he plans to finish career with Miami Dolphins, retire after 2025 season

Last offseason, the Miami Dolphins shocked the NFL by trading for star wide receiver Tyreek Hill, and he helped elevate them into playoff territory last season.

The Dolphins have high hopes moving forward, but their window may not be as wide as it seems. During an appearance on Sports Radio 810 WHB, Hill said he plans on only playing three more seasons and then retiring.

“I’m going for 10, man,” Hill said in reference to 10 career seasons. “I’m gonna finish out this contract with the Dolphins and then I’m gonna call it quits. I want to go into the business side. I want to do so many things in my life, bro.”

Hill also touched on what he wants to do after he’s done with football: get into the gaming industry.

“So I really want to get into like the gaming space,” he said. “I really want to get huge in that and that’s kind of what I’m doing right now. I’m using my platform, creating a gaming team, which isn’t launched yet. It should launch by the end of this month. I’m gonna just sign like different content creators, different athletes. I just been working that, talking to different sponsors.”

Despite being only a fifth-round draft pick in 2016, he quickly made a name for himself while making his former team, the Kansas City Chiefs, into a contender.

He was used partly as a kick and punt returner as a rookie, and that year he led the NFL in punt return yards, punt return touchdowns and kick return touchdowns. He also added 593 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns. His efforts earned him Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro nods right away.

Hill has become renowned for his world-class speed, which has earned him the nickname “Cheetah” and frustrated many opposing cornerbacks over the years.

He earned himself a Super Bowl ring in the 2019 season, but after Miami lost in the wild-card round of last season’s playoffs, he had to watch the Chiefs win their second Vince Lombardi Trophy in the last four seasons.

In his maiden voyage with the Dolphins, Hill established a career-high with 1,710 receiving yards while helping quarterback Tua Tagovailoa emerge as a star by giving him a reliable vertical threat.

The team is hoping to seriously contend for its first Super Bowl title since the 1973 season. The acquisition of veteran star corner Jalen Ramsey, who got a championship ring in 2022 with the Los Angeles Rams, should help in that pursuit. But that chase will be difficult, as a number of teams in the AFC will be better in 2023.

One has to wonder if player safety and the growing awareness and concern about brain trauma are reasons why Hill wants to hang up his cleats so soon. He will be only 31 years of age during the 2025 campaign.
