Tyreek Hill says he tried to join Cleveland Browns: ‘They should’ve paid me’

The Miami Dolphins made a splash in the 2022 offseason by trading for Tyreek Hill. However, the wide receiver recently said that he also tried to join the Cleveland Browns.

A fan wearing Deshaun Watson gear approached the seven-time Pro Bowler to seemingly have his Hill jersey signed. Seeing the Watson jersey might have triggered Hill’s memories.

“They should’ve paid me, bro,” the 29-year-old said. “I tried to go to Cleveland.”

It’s unclear how true the wideout’s claim is.

After all, the Dolphins paid a lot in terms of draft assets to land Hill from the Kansas City Chiefs. In fact, Miami had to give up five picks in the deal. Afterwards, the former fifth-round pick signed a lucrative contract extension.

Perhaps the Browns weren’t able to match the Dolphins’ offer. Cleveland didn’t have much draft capital to part ways with after shipping multiple picks to the Houston Texans to bring in Watson.

Even so, it is intriguing to imagine how well a pairing of Watson and Hill would have performed last season. As Dolphins fans know, Hill is a monster on the field. He recorded a career-high 119 receptions for 1,710 yards and seven touchdowns last season. His performance helped him earn a first-team All-Pro selection, the fourth of his career.

As for Watson, he had started making a name for himself prior to many allegations of sexual misconduct.

If Hill had landed on the Browns, he wouldn’t have been able to play that much with the talented quarterback in the 2022 campaign. Watson was eventually punished by the league and returned late last season, playing in just six contests and having arguably the worst season of his career.

The signal-caller only completed 58.2 percent of his passes for 1,102 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions.

With the Dolphins, Hill has gotten the chance to share the field with one of the league’s most promising quarterbacks in Tua Tagovailoa. If it weren’t for the 25-year-old having to miss some time last campaign due to health issues, perhaps Miami would have had a better record and advanced deeper in the playoffs.
