Tua Tagovailoa on his initial reaction to the Tyreek Hill trade: ‘I didn’t think it was real’

Earlier this offseason, the Miami Dolphins made a huge splash by acquiring superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa made an appearance on Hill’s podcast recently and revealed what his initial reaction to the trade was like.

“I heard about it, and I didn’t think it was real,” said Tagovailoa. “Because I already kind of had the notion like, this guy is set in K.C., he has a good relationship with all the guys there, he’s been playing there for a while already, they all mesh well together.

“And then I get a call from the head coach, then I get a call from my quarterbacks coach, and it’s the same thing. ‘Yeah, hear the news?’ I said, ‘Wait, is this real?’ They’re like, ‘Of course it’s real, why would it be fake?'”

Hill and Tagovailoa seem to have a really solid relationship already. That’s going to be important for the Dolphins if they want to make it back to the NFL playoffs during the upcoming campaign.

Miami has narrowly missed out on the playoffs in each of the past two seasons despite having winning records in both campaigns.

With new additions like Hill, Terron Armstead, Connor Williams and Raheem Mostert, expectations are now a lot higher in South Florida. A lot of those raised expectations also have to do with new head coach Mike McDaniel, who was hired away from the San Francisco 49ers earlier this year to replace Brian Flores.

In his short time with the Dolphins, McDaniel has greatly shifted the team’s culture. That is evident by the fact that multiple Dolphins players have praised McDaniel and his qualities.

Only time will tell if Miami ends up making the playoffs during the 2022 season, but it’s clear that the future is bright for the organization.
