Brian Flores speaks on not signing agreement that would pay him money for last years of deal with Dolphins

Former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores apparently could have signed a separation agreement that would have paid him the money from the final two years of his deal with the team.

Flores recently stated that he did not sign that deal. In an interview with Brandon Marshall, Chad Johnson and Omar Kelly on the “I Am Athlete” podcast, Flores spoke about a variety of topics, including his decision to not sign the agreement.

Signing the deal would have prevented Flores from pursuing his ongoing lawsuit.

“It’s kind of written in to, I would say, in a lot of cases silence players, coaches, whoever, from bringing some of this to light,” Flores said. “… That’s part of the sacrifice. That’s part of the risk to get this out in the open. This is important. This is a lot more important than money.”

Flores concluded his tenure with the Dolphins with a record of 24-25. Though he never managed to take the Dolphins to the playoffs, the team was right on the brink of a postseason berth in its two most recent seasons. In both of those seasons, the Dolphins finished the year with winning records.

Now, Flores will continue his coaching career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He recently signed onto Mike Tomlin’s staff as a senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach, and he will look to help the Steelers win a Super Bowl.

It will be interesting to see how Flores manages his coaching career along with his ongoing lawsuit in the coming season. Clearly, he is ready for any kind of discomfort that may come his way in the near future.
