Report: Houston Texans prefer Davis Mills over Tua Tagovailoa

With the NFL trade deadline approaching, rumors are heating up for controversial Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

The Miami Dolphins, who have a miserable 1-6 record on the season, are reportedly in the mix for Watson.

If the Dolphins were to trade for Watson, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa would almost certainly be on the move. However, according to a report, the Texans actually like their rookie quarterback, Davis Mills, more than they like Tagovailoa.

“My sense is, and I know this might sound out of whack, that the Texans actually like Davis Mills more than Tua Tagovailoa,” wrote Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

Mills has been at the helm of Houston’s offense during recent weeks due to an injury to veteran Texans quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

Mills has made five starts in Taylor’s absence, and the team is winless during that time. The rookie has completed 64.9 percent of his passes for 1,047 yards, five touchdowns and seven interceptions since taking over.

Tagovailoa, meanwhile, has looked solid in each of his last two outings. Since returning from injury, he has completed 74.7 percent of his passes for 620 yards and six touchdowns.

Unfortunately, the University of Alabama product has thrown three inceptions over the same span, and the Dolphins are 0-2 since his return.

Still, many fans will certainly be surprised to hear that the Texans prefer Mills to Tagovailoa.
