Report: Gerrid Doaks agrees to join Miami Dolphins practice squad

Rookie running back Gerrid Doaks has reportedly agreed to join the Miami Dolphins practice squad.

The Dolphins drafted Doaks in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but he was cut from the team on Tuesday. Fortunately for him, he’s going to get another opportunity in a slightly different capacity.

If running back depth becomes a concern for the Dolphins at any point throughout the 2021 season, Doaks could conceivably hear his name called.

The 23-year-old made a name for himself at the University of Cincinnati. Over three seasons there, he appeared in 30 games. He totaled 1,712 rushing yards for 14 touchdowns, averaging 5.2 yards per carry.

He also made an impact in the passing game, as he totaled 36 receptions for 407 yards and four scores.

Miami was clearly high enough on the youngster to use a draft pick on him, so there is certainly some potential for Doaks to develop into a serviceable running back at the NFL level. Time will tell if he makes an impact.
