Miami Dolphins rookie wide receiver Jaylen Waddle played in his first official NFL game on Sunday.
In the game, fellow receiver Jakeem Grant enthusiastically celebrated with Waddle after he scored the first touchdown of his career.
The Dolphins squeezed out a tight 17-16 victory over the New England Patriots, with Waddle catching four passes for 61 yards and one touchdown.
Waddle’s score on a three-yard pass from Tua Tagovailoa broke a 10-10 deadlock and gave the Dolphins the lead for good.
While Waddle didn’t end up leading the Dolphins in receptions or receiving yardage on the day, he gave a glimpse of what the Dolphins were expecting when they drafted him back in April.
Grant had no receptions against the Patriots and may not be targeted as much this season given the talent infusion the receiving corps has received.
Last season, Grant had a career-high 36 catches, scoring on one of those receptions. Even though he may not see the field as much this year, Grant is clearly enjoying the start of what could be a huge career for Waddle.
