Video: Miami Dolphins President Speaks Out on Political Injustice Sweeping Nation

Miami Dolphins president Tom Garfinkel is the latest member of the sports community to take a stand regarding George Floyd’s death.

“I think we can all agree that when we look at these videos of these men and what happened is completely unacceptable,” Garfinkel said. “We need to work together. We need love and empathy and compassion is how we’re going to get through this, until we get to a place where we have equality and the concepts like justice and truth are equal for everybody. That’s what we’re working towards. That’s what everybody who is a reasonable person wants.”

Floyd was killed by a Minneapolis police officer on May 25. The tragic event has sparked protests across the country.

Garfinkel, team owner Stephen Ross, head coach Brian Flores, general manager Chris Grier and Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez were among those distributing meals to those in need at Hard Rock Stadium on Monday.

“We need to get through this together,” Garfinkel said. “And that’s why we’re here today. This initiative was born over a month ago, but all those videos did was show us what’s been happening for a long, long time. And it’s time for change. It’s been time for change for a long time.”

Flores – who is one of three African-American coaches in the NFL – delivered a powerful statement on Friday.

Protests continued across the United States throughout the weekend, and the country remains on edge.

Garfinkel’s words won’t directly change things, but they are a positive message for all to embrace.
