The Miami Dolphins may have to prepare for both of the New York Jets’ top running backs Sunday after Breece Hall returned to practice Thursday.
Hall was upgraded to limited participation with a quad injury after sitting out Wednesday. The change keeps a possible return against Miami in play, although the Jets had not assigned him a game-status designation.
Hall has missed New York’s past three games, giving Braelon Allen an extended opportunity to lead the backfield.
Allen’s production means the Dolphins could face a shared workload if Hall is cleared, rather than a simple swap of one starter for another.
Jets coach Aaron Glenn addressed that possibility Wednesday.
“Breece is our starter, he’s always been our starter, but Braelon is going to get touches too,” Glenn said.
What Breece Hall’s return could mean for Miami
The distinction for the Dolphins is not just which back takes the first handoff. Hall has been the more productive receiver of the two this season, while Allen has given New York better results on the ground.
The Jets’ official statistics show the difference heading into Week 7:
| 2026 statistic | Breece Hall | Braelon Allen |
|---|---|---|
| Rushing attempts | 51 | 74 |
| Rushing yards | 163 | 314 |
| Yards per carry | 3.2 | 4.2 |
| Receptions | 10 | 9 |
| Receiving yards | 102 | 45 |
Those are season totals, not equal-workload comparisons. Still, Hall has more than twice Allen’s receiving yardage despite his three-game absence.
His availability would give Miami another back to account for on passing downs without requiring New York to abandon Allen’s rushing role.
Allen has rushed for 194 yards on 41 carries over the past two games. That stretch included 78 yards on 17 attempts against New England, when he also caught two passes for 26 yards.
For Miami, the preparation therefore has to cover both possibilities: Allen continuing as the lead option or Hall rejoining a backfield that has found production in his absence.
Glenn’s comments establish that Allen remains part of the plan, but they do not settle how touches would be divided Sunday.
Dolphins have defensive availability questions of their own
Miami also had a new absence Thursday. Linebacker Willie Gay Jr. missed practice with an illness, while Reese Taylor remained out and Kyle Louis and Rob Beal Jr. were limited.
Willie Gay (illness) and Reese Taylor were the only Dolphins on the 53 who missed practice.. Caleb Douglas, Jaylen Wright, Kyle Louis, Kacmarek, Beal were limited. Kacmarek said he's good to go for Sunday at the Jets.

Those defensive updates follow Wednesday’s injury report, which listed Malik Willis as a full participant despite a right-thumb injury.
The Dolphins visit the Jets at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m. EST. Friday’s game-status report will provide the next official indication of whether Hall will be available.
