The Miami Dolphins moved up in the 2027 NFL Draft order Sunday without taking the field.
Tennessee’s 26-20 victory over the Indianapolis Colts gave the Titans their first win of the season, leaving Miami and the Los Angeles Chargers as the NFL’s remaining winless teams following the early games.
The Dolphins rose to No. 2 in the current order, behind the Chargers. Miami is 0-5 and on its bye, while Los Angeles entered its afternoon game against Kansas City with the same record.
That creates another result for Dolphins fans to watch Sunday. A Chargers victory would leave Miami alone without a win and move the Dolphins into the top spot in the current order.
Why the Chargers are ahead of the Dolphins
Tankathon’s live draft tracker listed Los Angeles first with a .549 strength of schedule and Miami second at .615 following Tennessee’s win. The Titans, now 1-5, were third.
Under the NFL’s draft-order rules, strength of schedule separates teams with identical records, with the earlier selection going to the team whose opponents have the lower combined winning percentage.
That distinction explains why Miami’s difficult schedule does not put it ahead of another winless team. For draft positioning, the easier schedule wins the tiebreaker.
Those figures can change as opponents finish their games. Sunday’s order is a snapshot, not a secured selection, and the final positions will depend on how the season ends.
Miami’s next game comes against the Jets
The Chargers’ schedule puts them on a bye after Sunday’s visit to Kansas City. Miami returns to action with a road game against the New York Jets on Oct. 25, followed by home games against New England and Detroit.
The different bye dates also matter when reading the standings: Miami will have played one fewer game than Los Angeles after Sunday, then catch up when it faces the Jets.
For the Dolphins, that game remains an opportunity to earn their first victory with Malik Willis. Head coach Jeff Hafley ruled out benching Willis after the team’s 0-5 start, keeping the quarterback in place as Miami tries to improve its offense.
Tennessee’s win changed the draft picture during Miami’s break. The Dolphins’ own results will begin shaping it again next Sunday.
