Report: Dolphins open to trading Minkah Fitzpatrick, who has drawn interest

The Miami Dolphins reportedly have been open to trading safety Minkah Fitzpatrick ahead of the NFL’s trade deadline.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, there has been interest in Fitzpatrick from multiple teams.

A five-time Pro Bowler, Fitzpatrick was one of the big names involved in Miami’s trade before the season that sent tight end Jonnu Smith and cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, with the Dolphins just 2-7 and on the outside of the playoff picture in the AFC, Fitzpatrick is a veteran who could become expendable as the team liquidates some assets.

Miami already shipped out pass rusher Jaelan Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a third-round pick, and it could look to add more draft capital for the 2026 NFL Draft by moving on from Fitzpatrick.

This season, Fitzpatrick has appeared in and started all nine games for Miami, recording one interception, 50 tackles and five passes defended. Miami brought in Fitzpatrick in the same offseason its secondary from last season was overhauled.

Fitzpatrick was a first-round pick by Miami back in the 2018 NFL Draft, but the team traded him to Pittsburgh during his second NFL season. Fitzpatrick has been an All-Pro three times in his career, and he’s still just 28 years old (he’ll turn 29 later this month).

In his NFL career, the five-time Pro Bowler has 21 interceptions and led the league in picks during the 2022 season with six.

If Miami can net a solid draft pick in exchange for Fitzpatrick, it may make sense to trade him before Tuesday’s deadline. The Dolphins have won just two games this season and were blown out by the Baltimore Ravens in Week 9, leading to the franchise parting ways with general manager Chris Grier.

The Dolphins have a matchup with the Buffalo Bills in Week 10, and they may be in danger of getting blown out once again, especially if they move more key parts of their defense.
