Report: Jaylen Waddle wasn’t getting moved as long as Chris Grier had say

The Miami Dolphins are entering a new era at the general manager position. Chris Grier is out after he served as the team’s general manager for nearly a decade, and his departure could have a domino effect on a star player’s future in Miami.

Per one report, wide receiver Jaylen Waddle wasn’t going to get moved as long as Grier had a say in the decision. But now that Grier has been replaced by interim general manager Champ Kelly, it’s worth wondering if Waddle’s days as a Dolphin are numbered.

It’s hard to believe that the Dolphins trading Waddle wouldn’t be a signal that they’re punting on the season, as he’s been one of their best offensive players in 2025. Before Miami lost to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, the word was that the team wasn’t punting on its season and had cautious optimism within its walls. With the Dolphins now 2-7, maybe that’s changed.

Waddle has racked up more than twice the number of receiving yards of any other player on the team this season (586), and he is on track to rack up just over 1,100 receiving yards on the campaign. If he continues to play at this pace, this season would mark his fourth time totaling 1,000-plus yards in a season.

However, maybe it’s high time the Dolphins prioritize tanking for a chance at the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and with Waddle on the field and tearing up defenses, they might not be quite bad enough to land that draft choice.

If Waddle has played his last game as a Dolphin, he’s already cemented himself as one of the most talented receivers in team history. The first-round pick back in the 2021 NFL Draft ranks eighth in career receiving yards in Dolphins history with 4,715 to his name. He’s also tied for ninth in career receiving touchdowns with 24, with four of those coming this season.

At the very least, Dolphins fans won’t have to wait very long for a definitive answer as to whether Waddle will get traded this season. The trade deadline is less than one week away now, and his name could pop in rumors between now and Tuesday.
