Cam Newton implies Tua Tagovailoa needs to pipe down: ‘I like quiet Tua’

Amid a disastrous start to the 2025 season for the Miami Dolphins, signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa has been quite vocal in the media at times.

Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton seems to think that Tagovailoa needs to quiet down a bit.

Some of Tagovailoa’s comments in the media this season have garnered attention. For example, following Miami’s blowout Week 1 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, he was just one of several star players who provided notable comments, which included Tagovailoa challenging his teammates to show up to watch film the following Tuesday.

More recently, after he threw an interception late in the Dolphins’ contest against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, he spoke on the mishap and credited the defensive player for making a great play.

It’s hard to envision that Tagovailoa could have gotten off to a much more woeful start to the 2025 campaign through the Dolphins’ opening three games. He’s been careless with the ball in his sixth NFL season, as he’s thrown at least one interception in every game so far.

Only two teams have played three games already, but for what it’s worth, his four interceptions are tied for the most in the NFL.

Tagovailoa’s inability to take care of the ball is a major reason why the Dolphins are 0-3 and still searching for their first win of the campaign. Miami is off to its worst start to a season through three games since Tagovailoa was drafted in the opening round of the 2020 NFL Draft, as the last time the Dolphins dropped every one of their opening three contests was in the 2019 season.

But maybe the Dolphins can still rebound and turn their season around if Tagovailoa gets back to the level he played at in the 2023 season and lets his play do the talking. In that campaign, he led the entire league in passing yards with a whopping 4,624 across 17 starts.

Tagovailoa and company will aim to finally get in the win column when they take on the New York Jets in their next contest on Sept. 29. That game might just mark the most winnable for Miami of the campaign thus far, as the Jets are also winless on the season.
