Report: Dolphins hosting 4-time Pro Bowler Matthew Judon for a visit

Free agent linebacker Matthew Judon is far from the youngest player at his position in the league at 33 years old, but he’s highly accomplished. He’s earned four Pro Bowl appearances across stints with the New England Patriots, Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens.

Not only that, but Judon proved with the Falcons in the 2024 season that he still has plenty he can bring to the table for a defensive unit.

He came up with the first interception of his NFL career last season and also ended up with 5.5 sacks, 41 combined tackles, seven tackles for loss and nine quarterback hits.

With Judon still on the open market and the Dolphins looking a lot less talented on the defensive side of the ball compared to a season ago, it adds up that Miami reportedly is hosting Judon for a visit on Monday.

At the peak of his powers, Judon was one of the best pass rushers in all of football. He totaled a career-high 15.5 sacks with New England back in the 2022 campaign, and only three players across the league finished with more than him that season.

Judon ended up receiving the ninth-most votes for the NFL AP Defensive Player of the Year award that season.

Even though Judon is aging and may not be able to put together another season similar to the one he did with the Patriots in the 2022 campaign, his stint with Atlanta last season should have Dolphins fans confident that he could be an effective part of the team’s defensive unit if he is signed.

Miami boasted one of the better defenses in the league last season in terms of points allowed, and the team is hoping to be similarly effective on that side of the ball in the 2025 campaign under defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.

It’s possible the Dolphins will add Judon to the fold and bolster their defense. He would make a lot of sense as a stopgap option for Miami as it looks to remain competent on the defensive side of the ball after it lost multiple key contributors from a season ago.
