Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane and offensive tackle Austin Jackson are two of the more notable players on the team dealing with injuries with Miami’s season opener less than one month away. Jackson suffered a lower leg injury during a practice not too long ago, and he’s expected to be sidelined for a little while.
As for Achane, he likely won’t practice this week due to a calf injury, according to Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel.
On the bright side, however, the Miami Herald‘s Barry Jackson asserted that the Dolphins are “optimistic” that both Jackson and Achane will be ready to suit up for them when they begin their season against the Indianapolis Colts on Sept. 7.
Achane will look to establish himself as one of the top running backs in all of football in the coming season. He was easily Miami’s most effective rushing option as a sophomore in the 2024 campaign, as he finished with a team-high 907 rushing yards, and no other Dolphin ended up with more than 278. Achane ranked first on the Dolphins in rushing touchdowns by a wide margin as well with six.
Two realistic goals for Achane in his third NFL season would be to accumulate 1,000 rushing yards and earn a Pro Bowl selection.
Conversely, Jackson is simply looking to stay on the field for Miami in the 2025 season after all the time he’s missed over the last three seasons. A meniscus injury limited him to just eight games played in the 2024 season, and he missed the lion’s share of the 2022 season with an ankle injury.
Hopefully for the Dolphins, Jackson’s leg injury that he’s dealing with won’t mark the start of yet another injury-plagued season.
The Dolphins have just one more preseason contest to play before they begin the 2025 season. Miami will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Aug. 23, and the team will seek its second consecutive preseason victory in that game. The Dolphins beat the Detroit Lions by seven points, 24-17, back on Aug. 16.
