Report: Miami Dolphins lose football analyst to CBS Sports

A member of the Miami Dolphins has reportedly departed for a role with CBS Sports.

Deva Barer worked for the organization for two years, first as a football analytics staff assistant before becoming a football analyst, but she’s departing the franchise and joining the team over at CBS Sports, according to a new report.

Barer graduated from Cornell University with a degree in applied economics and management back in 2022 and seems to be carving out a solid path in the football world at a young age. Barer also previously worked as a film review analyst with the NFL and was an archives and football information intern with the Pro Football Hall of Fame, among other accomplishments.

It’s unclear what implications could arise for the Dolphins as a result of Barer’s departure, but they’re looking to get back in the playoffs in the 2025 season. Miami didn’t qualify for the playoffs for the first time under head coach Mike McDaniel after it ended the 2024 campaign with a record of just 8-9. Miami allowed more points than it scored a season ago as well.

Additionally, the Dolphins don’t merely want to get back to the playoffs — they want to snap their playoff win drought which has gone on for over two decades. Miami’s most recent playoff victory was all the way back in the year 2000, and that’s the longest active drought out of the NFL’s 32 teams.

Miami has business to attend to before it should totally shift its focus to the 2025 season, however.

Cornerback Jalen Ramsey is still a member of the Dolphins long after reports first surfaced about him being on the trading block. An anonymous NFL scout claimed recently that Ramsey and the team are splitting up because of his relationship with McDaniel.

The Dolphins also need to figure out how to satisfy their situation with tight end Jonnu Smith, one of their top players last season who is looking for a restructured deal.

With any luck, the Dolphins will get those matters squared away by the start of the season and enjoy a bounce-back 2025 campaign after they underperformed in a major way in the 2024 season.
