Report: Jalen Ramsey trade saga with Dolphins isn’t ‘all about’ sides having issues with each other

The Los Angeles Rams were the last team cornerback Jalen Ramsey played for before he was traded to the Miami Dolphins following the 2022 season. Miami dealt a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft along with tight end Hunter Long to Los Angeles in exchange for the star.

Ramsey has spent just two seasons with the Dolphins, yet he already wants to go back to the city he formerly played in, according to Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald. Of course, it should be noted that there’s more than one team in L.A.

“To me, I don’t think this is all about Jalen’s displeasure or Jalen’s issues with the team or the team’s issues with Jalen,” Kelly said. “My sources tell me this is a family thing for Jalen, and he wants to be back in L.A.”

The Rams and Los Angeles Chargers have both been named as potential landing spots for the 30-year-old.

The Dolphins have been trying to offload Ramsey for a while now. NFL insider Armando Salguero reported all the way back in April that “most of the league” has already heard from the Dolphins and/or Ramsey’s camp about a potential trade for the seven-time Pro Bowler.

However, despite seeing his name frequently bounced around in trade rumors for months now, Ramsey is still a member of the Dolphins, and Miami has yet to find him a new NFL home. NFL insider Mike Florio suggested not long ago that he believes the Dolphins might not have a real market for Ramsey until another team gets bitten by the injury bug.

The new report from Kelly is interesting and seems to contradict some comments made by an NFL scout, who said that Ramsey’s “broken relationship” with head coach Mike McDaniel is why he’s on the trading block.

Ramsey joined the Rams partway through the 2019 season and played for the team through the 2022 campaign. He earned two of his three career All-Pro selections during his stint in Los Angeles and also won the only Super Bowl of his pro career to date with the team earlier on this decade.

If the last few years are of any indication, Ramsey would have a better chance of competing for a Super Bowl in L.A. than he would in Miami, as the Dolphins are still trying to earn their first playoff win in decades.

Reading the tea leaves seems to suggest that there’s a real puncher’s chance that Ramsey ends up landing with the Rams or Chargers in the near future.
