As the Miami Dolphins continue to touch up their roster this offseason, one major question mark that remains is the future of veteran defensive tackle Calais Campbell.

Campbell, who spent the 2024 season with the Dolphins, is a free agent. Among his options are retirement, a return to Miami or a new deal elsewhere.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins believe they’re “in it” when it comes to the Campbell sweepstakes.

Jackson reported earlier this week that Campbell has a standing offer from the Dolphins. Presumably, that’s still the case, though the team has spent money elsewhere in recent days. Even if something has changed with the offer, Jackson’s post on X clearly indicates that Miami is looking to bring the 38-year-old back.

Campbell’s decision on his future is becoming an important detail for Miami this offseason as the team looks for certainty at defensive tackle. Although the Dolphins have made some key additions lately, they still have some roster holes that need to be addressed.

In the 2024 season, Campbell started every game for Miami. He finished the season with 52 combined tackles, five sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 12 quarterback hits, five passes defended and one forced fumble.

Campbell has a very impressive NFL resume that includes six Pro Bowl nods and one All-Pro selection, but he has never won a Super Bowl, so he may be motivated to come back for another NFL season to keep chasing that dream.

The Dolphins are hoping that they’ll be in the championship mix this coming season. They just completed a season in which they fell short of expectations, had a losing record and missed the playoffs, a frustrating reality after the team made the postseason in each of its first two tries under head coach Mike McDaniel.

Campbell would be a nice piece for the Dolphins to have back in the 2025 season as they try to right the ship. Hopefully, they’ll get some clarity on his situation sooner rather than later, as they’ll have to move in another direction if they aren’t able to sign him to a new deal.
