Dolphins star offers interesting perspective on who won massive Anthony Davis-Luka Doncic trade

One three-team trade between the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz has shocked the sports world. The Lakers received Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris while the Mavericks got Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick. Utah also obtained Jalen Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks.

At this juncture, the consensus belief might be that the Lakers won the trade in question. After all, Doncic is only 25 years old and one of the more gifted players of his generation. Davis is certainly an elite talent, but he’s been injury-prone for much of his career and is starting to get up there in age considering he’s 31.

Still, Miami Dolphins star cornerback Jalen Ramsey seemed to hint that both the Lakers and Mavericks won the blockbuster trade.

From the Lakers’ perspective, trading for Doncic seemingly has the team better positioned to remain competitive after LeBron James decides to call it quits on his NBA career. James will likely retire from the league sooner rather than later, as he’s the league’s oldest player at 40 years old and has been playing in the NBA for more than 20 years.

The acquisition of Doncic also ostensibly boosts the Lakers’ chances of winning another title before the end of James’ pro stint. James has been fortunate enough to play alongside some great players during his tenure, but Doncic ranks among the most talented.

As for the Dallas side of the coin, a duo of Davis and Kyrie Irving will probably give the Mavericks a great combination of offensive and defensive firepower. Davis is one of the top two-way players in the NBA today and has been in the running for the Defensive Player of the Year award several times throughout his career. Irving remains one of the NBA’s premier scorers as well, as he’s averaging 24.3 points per game while shooting 47.9 percent from the floor and 41.5 percent from 3-point range this season.

Ramsey just recently wrapped up his second season in a Dolphins uniform. The No. 5 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft appeared in every one of Miami’s 17 games in the 2024 regular season and totaled two interceptions.
