Former NFL signal-caller Jay Cutler was reportedly arrested for driving under the influence and three other offenses on Thursday.
He was subsequently booked into the Williamson County Jail in the state of Tennessee. He posted a bond of $5,000 and was released from custody later that night, according to a representative of the Franklin Police Department.
According to TMZ, Cutler, who played for the Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins in the NFL, has a court date scheduled for January of 2025.
In light of Cutler’s arrest, Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill seemingly questioned how the situation has been covered.
Aside from the DUI, Cutler was also tagged with failure to exercise due care, violation of implied consent law (which refers to a law on alcohol/substance testing requirements) and possession of a handgun while under the influence.
TMZ shared some details on the situation.
“We’ve now obtained the arrest report in which cops claim they responded to a call at around 5 PM Thursday about a White Ram that had allegedly rear-ended a car and had attempted to pay off the other driver with $2,000 so they wouldn’t call the police,” TMZ reported.
“When they arrived, they say they found Jay Cutler staggering around, slurring his speech and smelling of alcohol. Officers say Cutler claimed he hadn’t had anything to drink before amending his statement and saying he had a little. Cops say he turned down the field sobriety tests. At that point, the officer arrested Jay.
“Another officer searched his car and says he found a rifle in the backseat and a loaded Glock handgun in the center console.”
Notably, Hill was handcuffed and detained by police ahead of the Dolphins’ season opener versus the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 8 in a story that went viral.
Body cam footage of Hill’s detainment made the rounds on social media, as police were seen dragging him out of his car and pushing him down on the concrete.
Dolphins defensive lineman Calais Campbell — who was detained along with Hill — said that the police used excessive force against his teammate.
But the South Florida Police Benevolent Association — a police union — released a statement soon after the incident and seemingly directed blame Hill’s way for what transpired. The statement claimed that Hill was “uncooperative” with police.
Police departments in South Florida were notified of a “notable surge” in threatening language directed at law enforcement after Hill and Campbell were detained.
One of the officers involved in the Sept. 8 situation, who had six previous suspensions even before the drama, was placed on administrative duties in the aftermath.
Hill ended up playing against the Jaguars not long after he was detained by police, and he finished with 130 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. He has played in all five of Miami’s regular-season games thus far and has racked up 286 receiving yards and 12 first downs receiving.
Campbell suited up versus Jacksonville as well. He’s the oldest player on the team at 38 and has been in the NFL for nearly two decades now.
