Dolphins provide new batch of injury updates ahead of Colts game

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel gave injury updates on linebacker Emmanuel Ogbah, running back De’Von Achane and safeties Jevon Holland and Jordan Poyer on Friday, two days away from the team’s matchup against the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 20.

McDaniel told the media that he is optimistic that Poyer and Achane will be able to take the field against the Colts, but he’s still unsure as to whether Ogbah and Holland will be good to go.

The Dolphins’ defensive unit could be in dire straits against Indianapolis if it’s without some of the aforementioned defenders on Sunday. While the Dolphins have been strong defensively in many areas this season, the team has allowed an iffy 22.6 points per game.

Miami also gave up at least 24 points in three straight games from Week 2 through Week 4, a rough stretch for the team in virtually every department. With their offensive struggling in the process, the Dolphins went 0-3 during that three-game span.

The Dolphins did hold the New England Patriots to just 10 points in their most recent game on Oct. 6, but that fact might be more of an indictment of New England’s ineptness on the offensive side of the ball.

After all, the Patriots have averaged just 13.8 points per game on the season, which is the second-worst mark in the NFL behind only the Dolphins. New England doesn’t exactly have a great quarterback on its roster at the moment, as Jacoby Brissett — who has spent much of his career as a backup — started the first five games before handing things off to rookie Drake Maye in Week 6.

Meanwhile, as it pertains to the Dolphins and Achane, the running back has a chance to return to action without missing a full game. He suffered a concussion against the Patriots in Week 5 but was seemingly able to use the bye week to his advantage.

If the Dolphins were to pick up a win against the Colts on Sunday, Miami would be at the .500 mark on the season at 3-3 and right back in the playoff mix.
