The Miami Dolphins are on their bye week, and star wide receiver Tyreek Hill appears to be enjoying the break with a trip overseas.
Hill is likely having an easier time enjoying the bye week thanks to Miami’s critical win over the New England Patriots in Week 5.
The Dolphins entered the matchup at 1-3 and were in desperate need of a win. It wasn’t pretty, but Hill and company were able to escape New England with a 15-10 victory to move to 2-3 on the season.
Hill hasn’t looked like himself since quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered his latest concussion, but the receiver did have a decent performance against the Patriots, catching six passes for 69 yards.
The Dolphins may only need to survive one more game without their star quarterback. He’s guaranteed to miss their Week 7 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts but could return to action in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals.
If Miami were to win on the road in Week 7 and potentially hand the reins back to Tagovailoa at 3-3, the team would likely feel like it did a nice job of staying above water during the quarterback’s absence.
There are likely very few people who are more excited for Tagovailoa’s return than Hill. The eight-time Pro Bowler is typically one of the top receivers in the NFL. Last season, when Tagovailoa didn’t miss a single game for the Dolphins, Hill totaled a league-high 1,799 receiving yards and a league-high 13 receiving touchdowns across 16 appearances.
This season, he has just 286 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown through five games. With any luck, things will start to turn around for him soon.
Some chatter has begun that the Kansas City Chiefs have already won the trade that sent Hill to the Dolphins, but the veteran is likely motivated to prove that notion wrong. In order to do so, he will need to help Miami experience some playoff success.
A postseason win would be a good place to start, as the Dolphins haven’t had a playoff victory in over two decades. They’re also in search of their first Super Bowl victory since the 1973 season.
