Stephen A. Smith destroys Tyreek Hill for leaving Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith holds the view that Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill will rue his decision to leave the Kansas City Chiefs for Miami in the 2022 offseason after he and Kansas City couldn’t come to an agreement on a contract extension.

In Hill’s defense, his tenure in Miami got off to a very promising start. He totaled 1,700-plus receiving yards in each of his first two seasons as a Dolphin, and while the organization hasn’t won a playoff game in over two decades, Miami qualified for the playoffs in both seasons.

In the 2023 regular season, Hill even broke the record for the most receiving yards from a Dolphin when he totaled 1,799 across 16 starts.

But fast forward to current day, and Hill isn’t enjoying much success individually or collectively so far in the 2024 regular season.

Hill has reached triple digits in receiving yards in only one of the Dolphins’ four games to this point. He totaled 130 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but that performance came nearly one month ago.

The 30-year-old has accumulated fewer receiving yards in Miami’s last three contests combined than he did against Jacksonville alone. Granted, the Dolphins’ starting quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa has been sidelined since he got injured against the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 12, and the likes of Skylar McDaniel and Tyler Huntley haven’t stepped up their play in his absence.

But even when accounting for the lackluster play that Miami has received from some of its other quarterbacks in the wake of Tagovailoa’s injury, Hill has been uncharacteristically off his game.

In Miami’s embarrassing loss to a Tennessee Titans team that was winless prior to facing off against the Dolphins, Hill had perhaps his worst performance of the season. He finished with a season-low 23 receiving yards on four receptions and also didn’t register a single receiving touchdown.

Perhaps Hill will see his production skyrocket when Tagovailoa returns to the field, but the Dolphins might not be able to afford for him to go that long without finding his groove again. At 1-3, the Dolphins have one of the worst records of any team in the AFC.
