Calais Campbell lists several reasons why he took less money by ‘large margin’ to sign with Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins made a big splash with the offseason addition of star defensive lineman Calais Campbell.

When it came to what helped Campbell make his final decision on which team to join, money was not a major factor. In fact, Campbell revealed that the Dolphins were far from the only team to offer him a contract this offseason.

The Dolphins’ offer was the lowest Campbell received “by a large margin,” according to the man himself. While money didn’t play a major role, there were two other aspects that Campbell weighed heavily. The first was that joining the Dolphins offered Campbell the chance to return to a former home.

While he was born and raised in Denver, Campbell starred at the University of Miami from 2004 to 2007. The other aspect was that Campbell believes the Dolphins offer him the best chance to win a Super Bowl.

Campbell discussed that during a recent appearance on “The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz.”

Campbell began by discussing the emotional draw to return to South Florida.

“Definitely had a nostalgic, being here in the city, the amount of love I had when I was playing here in college ball, and my love for the city and the fan base here,” he said. “It made sense.”

He then went onto the financial aspect of his situation, as well as his Super Bowl aspirations.

“This is the cheapest offer I had by a large margin,” he said. “… I feel like this is a chance, my best shot at winning a Super Bowl, and that’s the ultimate goal for me.”

Campbell shores up a defense that is already filled with star talent. While he’s not quite the dominant force he used to be at 37 years old, he’s still capable of creating a lot of problems for offensive linemen.

Last season, he recorded 56 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks, along with one forced fumble and 17 quarterback hits. His 6-foot-8 frame will help create pressure inside so that the Dolphins’ stable of athletic pass rushers can put further pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

If the Dolphins’ defense can take another step forward this season to further complement one of the most electric offenses in the league, the Dolphins could be a very difficult team to beat.
