Ex-NFL star: Odell Beckham Jr., Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle will all have 1,000 receiving yards this season

Retired NFL star Chad Johnson believes the Miami Dolphins will have three players with at least 1,000 receiving yards each this season in Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Odell Beckham Jr.

Beckham, a Dolphins newcomer, agreed to a one-year deal with the team earlier this month.

“Odell, Tyreek and Jaylen Waddle will all have 1,000 yards,” Johnson said during a conversation with NFL legend Shannon Sharpe. “I bet you Odell (will) have 1,000 yards this season.”

It’s exceptionally rare for an NFL team to have three players with at least 1,000 receiving yards each. In fact, it has happened just five times in the history of the league.

For two straight seasons, the Dolphins have had two players with over 1,000 receiving yards each (Hill and Waddle), but it has been several years since the last time Beckham reached that threshold.

Beckham’s last season with at least 1,000 receiving yards came during the 2019 campaign. Five of his first six NFL seasons saw him reach the mark.

For his part, Johnson exceeded 1,000 receiving yards seven times during his NFL career and had a streak of six such seasons in a row at one point.

If Hill, Waddle and Beckham are all going to reach the benchmark, they’re going to need quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to do a good job of spreading the ball around. Tagovailoa led the NFL in passing yards in the 2023 season, but he relied heavily on Hill and Waddle and lacked a clear third option.

Beckham finished the 2023 season with 565 receiving yards for the Baltimore Ravens. His production will need to increase significantly in order for him to have a chance at 1,000 this coming season. In addition, Hill and Waddle will need to maintain their high levels of play in order for Johnson’s prediction to come true.

Of course, the bigger goal for the Dolphins is to finally enjoy some postseason success, as they’re searching for their first playoff win in multiple decades. Beckham, whether he reaches 1,000 receiving yards or not, would certainly love to help Miami change its playoff fortunes and emerge as a Super Bowl threat in the AFC.
