Tyreek Hill directly calls out NFL following Jaelan Phillips’ injury at MetLife Stadium: ‘You gotta take care of your product, NFL’

Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill recently called out the NFL after linebacker Jaelan Phillips suffered an Achilles injury in the team’s win over the New York Jets back on Nov. 24.

“You never wanna see an injury like that happen, man,” Hill said on his podcast. “And we’ve been sayin’ it, that the field conditions — havin’ a turf field outdoor sucks. It sucks, man. I seen a poll on Twitter where they had a list of players that got hurt on that same exact field, same injury. It’s like, bruh, you gotta take care of your product, NFL. We gotta do better, NFL. We gotta do better. … I really think the NFL, they need — the NFL and the players and also the owners — we need to come to some kind of agreement where it’s like, okay, we gon’ have this kind of field. We gon’ have a turf field, but it’s gon’ be indoors, or we gon’ have — somethin’, it’s gotta be somethin’ goin’ on with it.”

Hill performed at a high level in the team’s 21-point victory over the Jets. He racked up 102 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown on nine receptions. But Jaylen Waddle ended up leading the team in receiving yards, as he finished with 114.

In 11 games played with the Dolphins so far this season, Hill has totaled 1,324 receiving yards, 10 receiving touchdowns and is averaging 120.4 receiving yards per game, all of which lead the league. Additionally, he has accumulated 62 first downs receiving.

Before joining the Dolphins ahead of the 2022 season, Hill spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs and even won a Super Bowl with the team. The Chiefs traded Hill to the Dolphins in exchange for five draft picks.

The Dolphins’ win over the Jets marked their eighth win of the season to this point. At 8-3, Miami owns the best record in the AFC East division by a wide margin. The Buffalo Bills own the second-best record in the division at 6-6. The Jets own the third-best record in the division at 4-7, while the New England Patriots own the worst record in the division at 2-9.

The Dolphins have six games remaining on their schedule in the regular season, including a game against the Bills on Jan. 7 to wrap things up before the playoffs.

Hopefully, in light of Phillips’ injury, the NFL will consider improving the quality of the field at MetLife Stadium. After all, as Hill alluded to, Phillips isn’t the only player who has suffered an injury while playing at the stadium.

Next up on the schedule for the Dolphins is a date with the Washington Commanders. Miami will take on the Commanders — who own a 4-8 record on the season and have lost three games in a row — on Sunday with a chance to reach 9-3.
