Tua Tagovailoa shows major love to brother Taulia for breaking Big Ten passing record

It seems that Miami Dolphins star Tua Tagovailoa is not the only member of his family to stand out in football, as his brother Taulia recently broke the all-time record for passing yards in the Big Ten.

Tua Tagovailoa congratulated his brother, who plays for the University of Maryland and has thrown for 11,256 yards with the Terrapins.

“Just wanted to congratulate you on being the Big Ten’s all-time leading passer, very proud of you, the work ethic that you have and the love that you have for the game of football,” the Dolphins quarterback said. “It’s a blessing that I get to talk with you every week and very, very proud of you, brotha, keep going. May the Lord continue to keep you and bless you and guide you in all that you do, love you, brotha.”

Taulia Tagovailoa started his collegiate career playing for the University of Alabama as a backup quarterback for his older brother and Mac Jones. After one season, he transferred schools.

The 23-year-old had arguably his best season in 2021, completing 328 passes in that campaign for 3,860 yards and 26 touchdowns. He had another solid season the following year, passing for 3,008 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Opting to forgo entering the NFL draft, Taulia Tagovailoa returned for another season, giving him more time to become the Big Ten’s all-time leading passer. In 12 contests this season, he has completed 290 passes for 3,377 yards and 25 touchdowns.

It remains to be seen if he can follow in his brother’s footsteps to give the Tagovailoa family two representatives in the NFL. Despite his achievement in the NCAA, he is not yet a lock to get selected in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Tua Tagovailoa will certainly be monitoring his sibling’s future in the league, although for now, he is likely focused on helping Miami make a second consecutive playoff appearance for the first time in more than 20 years.

The Dolphins’ chances of achieving that goal are high, as they currently hold an 8-3 record and comfortable lead over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East.

The team is currently on a two-game winning streak and has a good opportunity to extend that as its next three contests will come against opponents with losing records.

After that is where it gets tougher, though, for Tua Tagovailoa and Miami, as the squad is slated to face the Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens and Bills to conclude its regular season.
