NFL exec likens Miami Dolphins to Big 12 team: ‘Tough matchup…but the games they’ve lost aren’t flukes’

In light of the Miami Dolphins’ loss against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday and their inability to win games against the elite teams in the NFL this season, one AFC executive likened the team to a Big 12 team.

“They are like a Big 12 team — they are a tough matchup and can put up huge points at any time, but the games they’ve lost aren’t flukes either,” the AFC executive told ESPN. “They’ve gotten beat by contenders in multiple years, so there’s some truth to that narrative for now. But they have the personnel to figure that out, and you know Vic Fangio’s defense should only get better as the year goes on.”

The Dolphins lost to the Chiefs by a score of 21-14. Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa totaled 193 passing yards and one passing touchdown in the loss. Running back Raheem Mostert ran for 85 yards on 12 carries, while wide receiver Tyreek Hill racked up 62 yards on eight receptions.

Miami now owns a 6-3 record on the season and is just one game ahead of the 5-4 Buffalo Bills for the best record in the AFC East.

The Dolphins’ struggles against the best teams in the NFL this season have been well-documented. Their three losses this season have all come against teams with more wins than losses.

The team lost to the Bills by 28 points, Philadelphia Eagles by 14 points and — most recently — to the Chiefs by seven points.

Miami has been a much better team at home than on the road. The Dolphins have yet to lose a game at home, seeing as how they own an excellent 4-0 home record. But the team has been subpar away from home, as evidenced by its 2-3 road record.

Arguably Miami’s most impressive home win of the season to this point came against the Denver Broncos back on Sept. 24. The Dolphins scored a whopping 70 points against the Broncos and won the game by 50 points.

Tagovailoa threw for 309 yards and four touchdowns compared to zero interceptions in the win. Plus, he completed 23 of his 26 pass attempts.

Running back De’Von Achane also put together a fantastic performance against the Broncos. He ran for 203 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. His longest rushing attempt in the game was for 67 yards.

Miami’s next chance to get back in the win column will be on Nov. 19 when the Dolphins take on the Las Vegas Raiders at home.
