Cedrick Wilson Jr. speaks out on botched play between him and Tua Tagovailoa: ‘My heart kind of got broken’

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. shared that he was heartbroken at the miscommunication between himself and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Tagovailoa and Wilson had a chance to tie the game against the Chiefs (pending an extra point) on a third down in the fourth quarter.

Miami was threatening to score with just over a minute left when Wilson ran a route down the sideline towards the end zone.

Tagovailoa attempted to get him the ball, but the quarterback’s throw came up well short of his receiver. It seemed that on the play that Tagovailoa wasn’t expecting Wilson to be as far downfield as he was.

Wilson had the Chiefs defender beat, and it’s possible that if he and Tagovailoa were on the same page that the receiver would have hauled in the pass for a touchdown.

Instead, Miami failed to convert on the drive and the Chiefs went on to win the game. The loss dropped the Dolphins to 6-3 on the season, and they are now 0-3 against teams with records over .500.

Miami would have loved to beat Kansas City, as the two teams entered Week 9 with the same record. A win would have given the Dolphins a leg up in the race for the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

Despite the miscommunication with Tagovailoa, Wilson still made an impact for Miami in Week 9. The receiver caught a 31-yard touchdown pass (his only catch of the game) in the third quarter.

With Tyreek Hill only finishing with 62 receiving yards, Wilson was called upon to step up against the Chiefs. Kansas City really limited Hill and Jaylen Waddle from breaking any of the big plays that they have been so great at creating for the Dolphins.

The Dolphins and Wilson won’t be able to get that play back, but they’ll also have a week of rest to focus on getting better during the bye.

Then, the team returns to action in Week 11 against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Dolphins will look to get back in the win column in that matchup, as they still hold the No. 1 spot in the AFC East division.
