Tyreek Hill claps back at notion that De’Von Achane might be faster than him, says rookie is 3rd-fastest on Miami Dolphins

Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill pushed back against the notion that rookie running back De’Von Achane could be faster than him.

In fact, Hill didn’t even give Achane the nod as the second-fastest player on the team. He gave that honor to practice squad cornerback Ethan Bonner.

Hill mentioned his impressive time in the 100-meter dash when comparing himself to Achane.

“I’m the fastest in the game, and I’m the fastest in real life too though. … De’Von Achane, he fast, but I’m 998 fast,” Hill said. “You feel me? I’m triple crown high school fast. You feel me? I’m junior Olympic fast. … I will say he’s (Achane) the third-fastest on this team though. We got another kid on the practice squad that’s pretty fast, Ethan Bonner.”

While Hill is not willing to give up the title as the team’s fastest player, the Dolphins are certainly lucky to have both him and Achane.

Defenses have to plan to contain both players and their elite speed, and it’s allowed the Dolphins to be one of the best offenses in the NFL this season.

Through four games, the Dolphins rank No. 1 in the NFL in yards per play – averaging 8.0 – on offense. The next closest team to the Dolphins in that statistic is the San Francisco 49ers, who average 6.3 yards per play.

A big reason for that has been the big-play abilities of Achane and Hill.

This season, Hill is averaging 16.8 yards per reception, and he’s already racked up 470 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns in four games. His longest catch this season is for 54 yards.

Achane has been able to break off big plays as well, ripping off a long run of 67 yards in Week 3 against the Denver Broncos and 55 yards in Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills.

The rookie running back is averaging a league best 11.4 yards per carry so far this season in just three games.

A third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Achane ran a 4.32 40-yard dash at the combine prior to the 2023 NFL Draft. It was an extremely impressive time and likely a reason why Miami picked him in the offseason.

As long as he and Hill continue to produce at high levels, Dolphins fans likely won’t care which player is truly the fastest on the field.

Achane and Hill are hoping to showcase their speed once again in Week 5 against the New York Giants on Sunday.
