Former NFL superstar explains why he was ‘filled with joy’ after getting respect from Tyreek Hill

Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill recently disclosed his list of the five best wide receivers of all time, and there were some surprises on his list, including his selection of Torry Holt.

The former St. Louis Rams star was ecstatic to know about Hill recognizing his game and contributions to the sport.

“That is a heck of a list,” Holt said during an appearance on “Good Morning Football” when asked about Hill’s selections. “And you know what, and when I first saw that, I was filled with joy. I really was because it was good to see and to hear from Tyreek Hill, who is well-respected in our game now, have that type of appreciation for my game. It’s clear that he watched the 2000s, and if he watched the 2000s, he watched me rip the 2000s, being that I was All-Decade. So, I really respect Tyreek.”

Hill’s five choices for his greatest wide receivers were Antonio Brown, Holt, Calvin Johnson, Randy Moss and Terrell Owens, in alphabetical order. An interesting theme about his list is that the legends he named played relatively recently.

But some folks may question the inclusions of Holt and Brown because they aren’t members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, unlike the other three.

Holt’s bid to join the Hall of Fame has come up short several years in a row, although his accolades seem to be enough for him to join the esteemed group of NFL legends.

After entering the league as the sixth overall pick of the 1999 draft, he immediately made his presence known by helping his Rams squad win the Super Bowl. The following seasons saw the North Carolina State University product earn seven Pro Bowl selections and one All-Pro nod.

He also led the league in receiving yards twice and receptions once. As Holt mentioned, he was part of NFL’s 2000s All-Decade Team.

Unfortunately, his career came to an end after 11 seasons because of injuries. The legendary wideout retired with 13,382 receiving yards and 920 receptions.

Only time will tell if Hill can reach those numbers. But if his production holds up in the coming years, eclipsing Holt in those departments is certainly possible.

Even so, the Dolphins wide receiver is likely more focused on helping Miami reach the promised land than on his personal achievements. The team now has a good chance of making it past the first round of the playoffs because of solid additions this offseason. Hopefully, Hill is up to the task and ready to elevate the Dolphins’ offense once more.
