Concerning news on Jalen Ramsey emerges from Miami Dolphins training camp

Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey was carted off the field on Thursday with an apparent left knee injury.

Some of Ramsey’s teammates later reacted to his injury.

Just prior to the injury, Ramsay had been taking part in an 11-on-11 drill. He was subsequently removed from the field, with the Dolphins’ medical staff then taking a closer look at his left knee.

The extent of Ramsey’s knee issue is unclear at the moment. However, losing the three-time All-Pro defender for any length of time would be a major cause for concern.

Back in March of this year, the Dolphins acquired Ramsey from the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for minimal assets. That move was looked upon as offering a huge boost to the Dolphins’ secondary.

Adding Ramsey to the team’s payroll means that the team will be paying him $55 million over the final three seasons of his current contract.

The Dolphins are Ramsey’s third NFL team as he gets set to begin his eighth season in the league. He was originally taken by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the fifth overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.

In October 2019, the Jaguars traded Ramsey to the Rams in exchange for two first-round draft picks as well as a fourth-round choice.

Ramsey was acquired by the Dolphins as a way to try to erase the memory of Byron Jones, whose three-year run with the Dolphins was injury-plagued. Jones ended up missing the entire 2022 season due to injury.

During his career, Ramsey has picked off 19 passes and returned one for a score. In each of the past two seasons, he’s collected four picks and is coming off a career-high 88 combined tackles last season for the Rams.

In addition to Ramsey’s big-play potential with respect to interceptions, the cornerback has also recovered a fumble in each of the past two seasons.

Until the full extent of Ramsey’s knee trouble is determined by medical personnel, it’s uncertain when he’ll get back on the field.

The Dolphins’ first preseason contest doesn’t take place until Aug. 11 against the Atlanta Falcons, with the team’s regular season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers happening on Sept. 10.
