Miami Dolphins release initial timetable for Jalen Ramsey’s recovery from injury

Miami Dolphins star cornerback Jalen Ramsey will reportedly undergo knee surgery and is set to miss the start of the 2023 regular season.

Ramsey was carted off the field on Thursday, something that had Dolphins fans very concerned. However, it appears as though he will return sometime during the upcoming campaign.

The injury is to his meniscus, and an initial timetable for his return was offered by NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero.

The 28-year-old suffered the injury as a result of colliding with star wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Just before news of his impending surgery broke, Ramsey offered a message on Twitter.

While the loss of Ramsey is a big one, the Dolphins have some solid depth at cornerback. Xavien Howard is still a very solid defensive back despite coming off a bit of a down season. Kader Kohou broke out in a pretty big way last season and has lots of momentum heading into his second NFL season. Miami also drafted Cam Smith in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Ramsey is a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro who is expected to elevate Miami’s defense whenever he does make his return. Ramsey and Dolphins defensive coordinator Vic Fangio have praised one another this offseason and should help improve a defense that took a step back last season and allowed 23.5 points per game.

Miami’s first four games are against the Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills. Those are some pretty tough opponents, but head coach Mike McDaniel will surely have his team ready to go with or without Ramsey.

Only time will tell exactly when Ramsey is able to return, but it is now time for other Dolphins defensive backs to step up in his absence. Miami’s first preseason game is scheduled for Aug. 11 against the Atlanta Falcons.
