The Miami Dolphins have made a lot of moves this offseason, but they have not made any moves related to quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.
Bridgewater served primarily as the team’s backup quarterback last season, and while he got several chances to really shine in that position, he ended up suffering injuries that forced rookie third-stringer Skylar Thompson to take the reins.
Given the fact that the Dolphins signed Mike White to a deal worth up to $16 million earlier this offseason, it seems quite likely that Bridgewater’s tenure with the Dolphins is over.
However, that does not mean that his time in the NFL is coming to an end. In fact, according to a recent report, it looks like the former first-round pick has a fair amount of interest from teams around the league.
Given the kind of season Bridgewater had in the 2022 campaign, he has to be relieved to know that there is at least one offer on the table. While he didn’t necessarily look bad when he was on the field, he definitely did not serve very well in the backup role given the multiple injuries that he suffered.
On the season, the former University of Louisville star started two games (appearing in five) and completed 49 passes for 683 yards and four touchdowns. He got picked off four times as well.
It’ll be interesting to see what kind of deal he ends up getting, whether it be from the Detroit Lions or another team.
As for the Dolphins, the decision to sign White — who had some solid outings with the New York Jets in 2022 — is another indication that health might still be a major concern for star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Tagovailoa missed ample time last season and once again failed to play in more than 13 games in a regular season. So far, that’s his career-high, which is an obvious source of frustration for fans.
The hope is that Tagovailoa will be able to stay healthy throughout the regular season and playoffs in the 2023 campaign. If the University of Alabama product is not able to do so, White should get plenty of chances to prove what he can do in the league.
